Rekero, winner at Balaklava after chronic tendon injury

Rekero was the first horse to gain a full recovery using the UTC technology at Barossa Equine. After sustaining multiple ligament strains, he was put the market and turned up at an auction. Barossa Equine, the new owners, put Rekero through a program of UTC Technology, offering precise diagnostics and accelerated recovery.

From auction to race day

Rekero exemplifies the transformative power of innovative equine rehabilitation. After sustaining multiple ligament strains, he was put the market and turned up at an auction. Barossa Equine, the new owners, put Rekero through a program of UTC Technology, offering precise diagnostics and accelerated recovery.

Tailored rehabilitation

UTC Technology allowed Rekero’s team to detect the micro-damage, creating a tailored rehabilitation protocol. This non-invasive solution monitored healing progress, allowed consistent adjustments of the program, ensuring the tendon regained its structural integrity while reducing recovery time.

Rekero’s return to Balaklava Race 4 was a triumph of modern science and horsemanship.

Rehabilitation Success at Angaston Park

Jekyll’n’Hyde, a racehorse presenting with a significant tendon injury, was admitted to Angaston Park in May 2024. A structured, evidence-based rehabilitation plan was implemented, focusing on controlled loading and gradual conditioning. His recovery remained complication-free, with steady improvement observed throughout each phase of the program.

By November, he had returned to full race training. He resumed racing in February 2025 and has now secured a win at his third start, post-recovery.

His outcome offers a clear example of what’s achievable through a methodical, well-monitored approach to equine rehabilitation.

Marcolt – A Journey of Resilience and Recovery

Marcolt presented in June 2023 with an injured superficial flexor tendon (SFT). UTC imaging revealed structural changes consistent with a recurrent injury. Throughout his rehabilitation, serial scans were used to track healing progress and guide program adjustments. Changes in fibre pattern and alignment were critical markers in determining his readiness for gradual increases in load. By April 2024, Marcolt was cleared to trial. While a non-tendon-related issue briefly interrupted his return, he resumed training and recorded a win in November 2024. Since then, he has maintained competitive form at his previous rating level. Marcolt’s case illustrates the importance of ongoing assessment, adaptive planning, and patience in managing complex tendon injuries.
